Kein Praktikum für indische Studenten - Rassismus an der Universität Leipzig

Without words, Hard to believe. A person of her stature giving such out of mind remarks. whole India is standing firm against such crime against their own daughters. people had gone on streets to show solidarity with rape victims. Courts, Govt., People & press are doing every thing to make sure these things do not happen. it is mature India which had confronted this grave problem head on, it had not shied away from its weaknesses or louse poles in its law. Even Germany had taken allmost 60 years to acknowledge that its women Volk were Raped ( vergewaltigt) in masses by sieger machte after the fall in second world war. No cases were registered because they had brought freedom. Is it not questionable ? Had any body criticized ? forget punishment. Rape is heinous crime, it should be dealt with severe punishment.

Das Dementi der Professorin ist alles andere als glaubwürdig. Sie denkt so, will es aber nicht öffentlich haben. Wer so etwas schreibt, hat nicht einfach einen Fehler gemacht. Der Rassismus ist mitten in der Gesellschaft.

Heisst das also, die veröffentlichten Mails stammen gar nicht von ihr? «Wir versuchen zu eruieren, wie die Antworten entstanden sind.»

Erst nach mehrmaligem Nachfragen von Blick.ch gibt sie zu: «Ich habe einen Fehler gemacht.» Die Professorin entschuldigt sich öffentlich für ihre Äusserungen. Doch sie betont: Die Antworten seien aus dem Zusammenhang gerissen worden. Sie sei alles andere als rassistisch und fremdenfeindlich eingestellt."

In an email purportedly sent by the professor to this student, she wrote she no longer accepted “any male Indian guests, trainees, doctoral students, or post docs due to the severe rape problem in India”.

Dear Ms. Sickinger,

All Cocaine smugglers are not Colombians, All Colombians are not Narco-Traffickers. All Nazis are not Germans, All Germans are not Nazis. You know this, right?

I recently came across a piece of news wherein you denied an Indian male student an internship purely because...He was Indian. And a Male. At the very beginning, let me state that there is a possibility that you may not be the professor concerned and may be wrongly targeted. If that is the case, kindly ignore what follows. If you have indeed done the same, what follows next is of immense importance to you.

While I agree that India is facing certain issues as far as rapes are concerned, your attitude is extremely unfortunate as it tends to paint everyone with the same brush. May I enlighten you on the fact that India ranks way below the United States and certain other countries as far as rapes are concerned. So by that logic, you should be denying internships to students of several nationalities. And that may be a dangerous precedent.
Some may say that racial profiling, which you are indulging in, comes naturally to Germans and history bears ample testimony to this fact. But I shall not think on the same lines else there won't be any difference between you and me. I would only like to add that why you have heard of these ghastly acts taking place in India is because a majority of Indians (and males included) are outraged by such behaviour and vehemently protested against this. Also, we were gracious enough to let someone shoot a documentary on the same and gave the lady director all the requisite permissions.

We want to speak about it so that the society is made aware and such acts do not take place in the future. But if people like you wrongly interpret our concern and outrage as a blot on our nation and most importantly, all our countrymen, I am afraid you have got it all wrong.

The doors of education and learning are open to people from all walks of life. Even the robber Ratnakar, after meditating in the true pursuit of knowledge, went on to become the great Valmiki and wrote one of the greatest epics the world has ever known, The Ramayana. And here we are just talking about a young man wanting to quench his thirst for learning.

I hope you see reason in the points that I have mentioned and do give the student concerned an opportunity you have snatched away from him in a degrading manner. Because if people all over the world start following your actions, the world will become a disgusting place to live in!

Hope better sense prevails.
